Imphal, June 21 2009: Decrying that the State Government has failed to act on the points of agreement it made with the JAC in connection with the killing of Prof Islamuddin, the JAC Against the Brutal Killing of Prof Islamuddin in MU Campus has called a 24 hours State-wide general strike with effect from 6 am of June 22 .

A press release issued by the JAC accused the Government of condoning the accused involved in the killing of Prof Islamuddin.

The JAC questioned the inaction of the State Government after a Cabinet meeting decided to hand over the murder case to CBI.

Observing that the Government was able pull up the prime suspects/accused involved in the killing of contractor Krishnadas within a few days' time, the JAC questioned the failure of the Government to seize the vehicle used in killing Prof Islamuddin even as one IRB personnel who confessed his involvement in the killing has surrendered to police.

Calling upon all civil society organisations, student bodies and local clubs to support the general strike, the JAC said that medical, water supply, electricity, religious ceremonies would be exempted from the purview of the general strike.
