Imphal, May 20 2009: The JAC formed in protest against the killing of Laitonjam Satish alia Tomba (34) of Singjamei Oinam Thingel has called a 12-hour bandh in Singjamei area with effect from 6 am tomorrow.

Essential services including education would be exempted from the purview of the bandh.

Announcing this during a press conference, JAC convenor Oinam Nandakishore said the JAC has been constrained to step up its agitation as the Chief Minister has failed to provide evidences in support of the claim that Satish was a PLA cadre.

Meanwhile, Gunindro Pebam who had been reportedly abducted along with Laitonjam Satish who was shot dead by a combined force has been remanded to police custody till May 23 by a Court here today.

Following a petition filed by the Lamlai Police, Judicial Magistrate First Class of Imphal remanded Gunendro to police custody for seven more days.

A resident of Haobam Marak Keisham Leikai, 45-year old Gunindro Pebam had been reportedly abducted along with Laitonjam Satish alia Tomba (34) of Singjamei Oinam Thingel by some unidentified persons suspected to be security personnel who came in a Maruti Gypsy in the afternoon of May 16 from the road leading to Sajiwa Jail.

However, police claimed that Satish was killed during an encounter with a combined force of Thoubal District Police Commandos and personnel of 23 Assam Rifles at Laikoiching in Imphal East in the evening of May 18 .

One .32 pistol loaded with five rounds of ammunition recovered from his possession, police claimed.

While Gunindro was arrested by the combined force from near the site of the encounter along with five rounds of AK Rifles and two detonators.

Police said that Gunendro is a PLA cadre.

Protesting over the incident, people of Singjamei area yesterday blocked the National Highway 39 even as Wakat Meepham was staged at Haobam Marak.
