Mine blast in Chandel kills boy, 3 others hurt

Moreh, February 19, 2010: A 15 year-old village boy was killed and three other villagers injured when a mine bomb went off at Aigejang village under Chakpikarong police station in Chandel district this morning.

The victim of mine blast has been identified as James Zou (15), son of Late Bijoy of Khullen Khailet.

The injured persons are Ngampao Haokip (20), son of Jamngam Haokip, Shokhulun Haokip (20) and Tineng Haokip, all from Aigejang village.

Among the three injured persons, the condition of Ngampao is stated to be serious as his both legs and hands were severely wounded in the blast.

He has been admitted to RIMS Hospital here.

The two other injured villagers are being treated at the hospital of 8 Assam Rifles post at Chakpikarong.

Village chief, Nethang Haokip told this newspaper that the mine bomb exploded on a footpath from the village leading to uphill while some villagers were climbing the hill path.

On hearing the sound of the blast, villagers rushed to the spot and found the four villagers lying in a pool of blood there injured and groaning in pain.

The blast site is around 2 km from the AR post there.

They couldn't ascertain immediately whether the bomb was planted earlier or how it exploded, he added.
