Infuriated people confront the cops at Kakwa after being stopped from proceeding to RIMS

On the other hand, the last rites of Krishnadas was performed at his birth place Kakching today.

Before that, police had to fire tear gas canisters and mock bombs to control a large number of agitated mourners who came to take the body from RIMS morgue or pay their last respect at Kakwa area at around 11 am.

As the agitated people were coming together in a number of vehicles, police stopped them at Kakwa leading to a confrontation.

Later, only a truck and a Tata Sumo were allowed to go and pick up the body from RIMS.

However, as the mourners insisted on following the two vehicles on foot, police fired tear gas and mock bombs to disperse them.

At least seven persons reportedly sustained injuries in the ensuing melee, though their conditions are not serious.

It may be recalled here that a resident of Kakching Sumak Leikai Mandap Pareng, 42-year old contractor Yengkhom Krishnadas was abducted by some armed persons from his wife's place at Thangmeiband Khomdram Selungba Leikai in the night of June 10 in connection with a ransom demand of Rs 2 crores.

The indefinite bandh called by the JAC formed in connection with the killing has been suspended for one week after Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh gave his assurance of arresting the killers very soon.

Apart from one Seram Ashalata Devi (36) of Tera Sayang Lambi Konjengbam Leikai, there is no report of any arrest made by the police in connection with the killing.
