AR eliminates two UG cadres at Moidangpok

Imphal, November 12 2008: Assam Rifles have reportedly gunned down two underground activists in separate encounters that occurred in different parts of the State yesterday.

According to a statement issued by PRO Assam Rifles today, based on specific information regarding movement of UGs, troops of 32 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector along with a team of 23 Assam Rifles under HQ IGAR (South) launched operation in general area of Moidangpok and laid multiple ambushes yesterday.

At around 6.20 pm, two suspected KYKL cadres were spotted.

On being challenged, the two UG cadres tried to flee while opening fire at the advancing troop.

The troop also immediately retaliated eliminating one of the UGs while the other managed to escape taking advantage of the built up and darkness.

One 7.62 mm pistol, four live rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition and one FCC have been recovered from the slain UG cadre, the PRO informed, adding that the body of the slain UG and the recovered items were handed over to Patsoi Police Station yesterday itself.

In the second incident, the PRO further informed that based on specific information on the movement of UG cadres in the general area of Laiphum village under Tengnoupal police station in Chandel district, troops of 29 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) conducted search operation yesterday.

During search of the suspected area, the troops came under fire from one of the abandoned huts in the close proximity of the village.

The troops noticed that one of the attackers was trying to escape by taking advantage of the darkness and dense foliage.

The troop chased after the fleeing gunman and eliminated him.

One 9 mm pistol, four live rounds of 9 mm ammunition and two FCC were recovered from the possession of the slain UG cadre.

The body of the slain UG cadre and the recovered items were handed over to Tengnoupal Police Station today.

On the other hand, troops of 20 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) manning permanent vehicle check post at Bongyang observed and checked a Maruti car (MN01-W-0691) and arrested one UNLF cadre yesterday, PRO Assam Rifles informed.

During interrogation, the arrested individual identified as Anthim Tholbi Singh (28) s/o A Molledo Singh of Ward No.7, Moreh revealed that he was involved in weapons laundering, extortion, smuggling of arms and ammunition.

The arrested individual has been handed over to Kakching Police Station yesterday.

A combined force of Bishnupur District Police Commandos and personnel of 4/8 GR have also apprehended two KYKL activists along with two pistols during search operation in Waheng Khuman area of the district in early morning today.

According to police sources, the arrested KYKL cadres have been identified as Chirom Tiken alias Premkumar (31) s/o Shyam of Waheng Khuman and Yendrembam Shyamkumar alias Boy (21) s/o Ibomcha of the same locality.

Two country-made pistols and three live rounds of ammunition have been recovered from their possession, the police source informed.

UG nabbed: Thoubal district police commandos arrested a KCP cadre identified as Yambem Ibomcha Singh alias Amu (24) s/o of Y Nilamani Singh of Nongpok Lourembam at around 2 pm yesterday, informed SP (Thoubal) Clay Khongsai in a statement issued today.

On receipt of a reliable information about presence of cadres of valley based UG elements in the general area of Ukhongshang Maning Leikai commandos of district police rushed to the area and conducted search operation, the SP elaborated.

On questioning the captive reportedly disclosed of being a member of the banned KCP and extorted Rs 3000 each from every bus plying from Yairipok to Imphal under the instruction of his father, the SP added.
