Imphal, January 10 2010: Rubbishing the claim that the UNLF is involved in the killing of migrant workers, as part of the machinations launched by armed groups to destablise the Ibobi Singh led Government, the proscribed outfit today said that this is just another manifestation of the policy of the Government of India to malign the revolutionary movement.

On the other hand, there may some truths doing the round among the people that the killing of migrant workers have been carried out by police commandos at the behest of the Chief Minister to side step the many hot issues, claimed UNLF in a statement today.

The UNLF has already made it clear to the people of Manipur in February 2008, that it had nothing to do with the killings of the migrant workers.

Moreover UNLF had also already made its views clear on the large scale influx of non-local workers.

However since the UNLF has been accused of being involved in the killings of migrant workers, it is necessary put things on record again, said the statement.

The population of Manipur is about 24 lakhs and out of this non-local people account for about 8 lakhs.

This is much more than the population of the hill peoples, it noted.

India has formulated such an economic policy, that the indigenous people have lost their traditional employment to the non-locals.

Not only this, the migrant workers have entered into wedlock with many local women and have even settled here.

Such a situation has led to the gradual erosion of the people's identity, said UNLF and added that it is due to situations like this why there are many clashes between the Boros and outsiders today.

The same is true with the Ahomiyas and the Karbis.

This is due to the covert policies being pursued by India to dilute the identity of the indigenous people of the region, claimed UNLF.

It is in line with this policy that the year 2008 saw the highest number of influx of outsiders into Manipur.

That year also witnessed the highest number of migrant workers being killed.

The outfit also urged the people to seriously study the meaning of the statement of then Defence Minister George Fernandes in Moreh that human fences would be put along the border.

To defeat the designs of India, UNLF urged the hill and plain people as well as civil organisations to put their heads together and work unitedly so as to save the identity of the people.
