Imphal, March 06, 2010: Advocate General Nongmeikappam Koteshwar (N Koteshwar) sustained injuries in mysterious circumstance near Napetpalli at about 7.45 pm today.

NK Koteshwar was returning from Hungpung Haokok in Ukhrul district after attending Luira Phanit (seed sowing festival) there together with Works Minister K Ranjit and TD Minister DD Thaisii.

The ministerial team which also included the Advocate General left for Imphal at about 4.30 pm together with a large party of security escorts.

The entourage was led by flag-post escort vehicle followed by two other escort vehicles just ahead of Works Minister K Ranjit's white coloured Ambassador car.

Interrupted by another escort vehicle, Koteshwar followed just behind in another white car (Tata Indica) followed by other vehicles.

On reaching the main road from Hungpung village, Ranjit, Thaisii and Koteshwar rode together in Ranjit's car on the invitation of the two Ministers who were riding together from the beginning of the journey.

As the entourage approached Gwaltabi after crossing Mahadeva Lamkhai, a gun shot was heard from an unknown direction.

A little later, another gun-shot was heard near Yaingangpokpi.

However, the entourage continued their journey without halting.

A third gun-shot was heard again as the VIP team and their security escorts travelling at the speed of 60 kms per hour reached Nongada.

On reaching Lamlai-Napetpalli crossing, five/six rounds of gun-shots which sounded quite similar to the previous gun-shots were heard.

Immediately after the gun shots were heard, the car in which the three VIPs were travelling slowed down a bit.

But after crossing Lamlai police station where security forces including BSF personnel were on frisking duty, the car again picked up speed and drove ahead.

The car and the security escorts drove directly to JN Hospital.

There, Advocate General Koteshwar was seen taken to casualty ward of the hospital with injuries.

It is reported that Koteshwar was hit by a bullet on the right shoulder.

The media team who accompanied the VIPs were, however, not allowed to meet the injured Advocate General by the security escorts.

The security escorts asked the media persons to go back saying that the injury to Koteshwar was caused by broken pieces of glass.
