NPP decides to support Congress

Imphal, March 01: In consonance with the overwhelming mandate for the Congress just concluded poll the National Peoples' Party (NPP) has declared that it will extend unconditional support to Congress so that peace can be restored and development pace accelerated.

Briefing media persons at his Major Khul residence, NPP president V Hangkhalian claimed that NPP was the most successful party in the 9th Assembly elections as three out of just five candidates fielded got elected.

He also conveyed sincere gratitude to all those who extended cooperation to NPP candidates in the just concluded elections regardless of whether they won or lost.

Sensing the desire of people to have a stable Govt so that peace can be restored and development pursued more vigorously, NPP, after serious deliberation decided to extend unconditional support to Cong, Hangkhalian said.

Written to these effects have also been given to CLP leader Okram Ibobi, MPCC president Gaikhangam and AICC general secretary North East in-charge Oscar Fernandes through one elected Congress legislature yesterday, he informed.

However, there is no response nor any invitation as yet, Hangkhalian disclosed.

To a query, he said that there was no question of NPP merging with Congress.

The three elected NPP candidates are V Hangkhalian, Thangminlen Kipgen and T Hangkhanpao.
