Imphal, February 28: Controversy continues to dog the School Education Department with matter coming to light that out of 911 teachers, whose verifications have been finalised, 110 were detected as fake appointees.

This came to light when the Department asked the Vigilance to further probe the antecedents of the 911 teachers.

Not only this, but the Education Department has also not been able to furnish any documents to the police pertaining to the verification process of 214 teachers in Churachandpur district.

Speaking to The Sangai Express, a well placed source said that after the verification process of the teachers was finalised, the Education Department approached the police to probe the case of 214 teachers in Churachandpur district.

The police took up the case, but interestingly, the Education Department has not been able to provide any documents to the police.

An FIR was lodged against the 214 teachers following a written intimation from the School Education Director who sought to recover the pay and other financial benefits withdrawn by the said teachers.

Following the intimation from the Education Director, the SP of Churachandpur police then wrote to the Director and the ZEO seeking particulars, pay bills, appointment letters and other relevant documents of the 214 teachers.

The Education Department however responded that it was not in possession of any of the documents sought by the police.

The same response was also received from the ZEO of Churachandpur, said the source and added that the non-availability of the documents has hampered the investigation of the police.

In connection with the case, the police picked up one Lalpianglien Hmar (47) of Rengkai Eden Thar on February 21 and he was released later on health ground, informed the source.

Already there are suspicions doing the round that the documents sought by the police may have been hidden by some parties concerned, said the source.

Adding to the drama in the School Education Department, out of 911 teachers whose verification process was finalised with the participation of the respective DCs, 110 have been found as fake appointees.

This came to light when the Education Dept roped in the service of the Vigilance Dept to probe the case of the 911 teachers as there were some suspicion.

The Vigilance Department detected the fake cases after examining only 300 cases out of the 911 submitted by the Education Department.

The Vigilance Department is also facing an uphill task in investigating the fresh cases, as the Education Department has not been able to submit the records sought.

In another development, the Vigilance Department has found that a draughtsman in the Irrigation and Flood Control Department was appointed on the basis of a fake ITI certificate.
