Three UGs killed at different places

Imphal, December 28 2008: GOVERNMENT FORCES killed at least three suspected underground activists in separate incident today in the continuing counter insurgency operations in the state.

Official reports said that troops of 31 Assam Rifles killed a suspected PLA cadre at Gopijang village located near the international border with Myanmar in the wee hour today.

The village is located some 8 km north of the border town Moreh and the shoot out reportedly occurred at around 3 am.

A .38 pistol loaded with four live rounds of ammunitions was also recovered from the slain suspect, the police report said.

In yet another militancy related fatality incident, two suspected militants were also killed by the Imphal west police commandos in a join operation with troops of 23 Assam Rifles at Leimakhong under Lamlai police station at around 4.50 pm.

Two small weapons (a 9mm pistol and a .38 revolver) loaded with some rounds of ammunitions were recovered from the two slain duo, police said.

The dead bodies have been retrieved from the spot and deposited at RIMS morgue for official identification, the report added.
