DESAM to launch series of agitation

Imphal, May 28 2009: DESAM while setting deadline till May 31 for the unconditional release of the volunteers of student bodies has threatened to declare emergency and call 120 hour general strike.

If the volunteers of the student bodies including leaders of the student bodies are not release without any condition by May 31, DESAM will launch agitation like calling of 120-hour statewide general strike by declaring emergency, said DESAM general secretary, Y Ratankumar.

Speaking at a press at its office at Keishampat today Ratankumar demanded unconditional release of the students who have been detained by the police on the charge of nexus with the underground group.

Till May 30, the body will organize sit-in protest in various places across the Imphal east, Imphal west, Thoubal and Bishnupur districts from tomorrow.

If the authority failed to release them by May 31, despite students protest, the body will impose general strike.

He said that DESAM could not agree with the arrest of student leaders and chief functionaries of the student bodies when an underground group killed the professor alleging that the act f detention of the volunteers is doing by the police with vested interest apparently taking revenge of certain personal enmity.

Police act has led to the prevalent of fear and panic inside the MU campus, students left hostel and study atmosphere has been greatly disturbed.

Examinations for the BA, BSc, B Com, and MA, M com and M Sc conducted by the MU could not be proceed.

The move of the government has drawn the effort of the DESAM calls for not affecting academic atmosphere of students and academic calendar in vain.

He also fixed the responsibility of all the happenings to the MU authority.

Non-taking up of appropriate action on time by the authority has resulted to the lost of life of the professor Md Islamuddin.

Handing over of students lodging at the MU hostel to the security force is the most defective move of the state government.

The charges level against the student bodies' effort for bringing quality education in the state is false propaganda of the government to give wrong impression to the student bodies by the people, he lamented.

Involving MU authority in the unreasonable move of the state government will amount to looser of the state.

Reiterating that the demand for unconditional release of the student leaders, if not fulfill the demand, he threatened to launch various forms of agitation with the support of the people of the state.

Any untoward outcome will be the sole responsibility of the government.

However, he said institutes related with education will be kept outside the purview of all forms of agitation informing that DESAm head office has informed all its district and local units to get ready for launching the agitation.
