Probe in car-bomb incident at Raj Bhavan complex

Imphal, September 25 2009: Imphal West Police Commandos apprehended five cadres of KCP(MC) alleged as conspirators in the failed attempt to explode an IED inside the Imphal Raj Bhavan on September 18 last yesterday.

The five arrested persons were identified as Khumanlambam Jiten alias Tyson alias Brojen (35) son of Shamu of Nongren Mayai Leikai, Chongtham Laingam alias Budhi (36) son of late Ch Doren Singh of Sagolband Tera Amudon Leirak, Khumanlakpam Naba Singh (54) son of late Kh Modhu of Nongmeibung, Poropmpat, RK Ingocha Singh (41) son of late Netrajit of Singjamei Bheigyabati Leikai and Sorokhaibam sanayaima (44) son of late Nitya of Salam Leikai.

Interrogations to the arrested persons are on to find out more details on the intrusion of the IED laden vehicle, said the Senior SP, Imphal West L Kailun.

Jiten alias Tyson and Sanayaima who came on a vehicle together were apprehended from a place in Imphal when the police commandos conducted check on suspicion.

During verification to them, they admitted that they took part in placing the IED laden vehicle inside the Raj Bhavan.

Following the disclosure made by them Laingam alias Budhi along with two others were picked up from their respective homes.

From the possession of Budhi, police seized a .38 pistol and some dossiers related with the KCP (MC), source said.

The source further said as per disclosure made by the five persons, police came to know that Khumanlakpam Naba, an expert in electronic works was behind the making of the IED to fit to the car while RK Ingo took the role of transportation of the IED materials.

Among the five, Kh Jiten alias Tyson was a former member of PLA.

He fitted the IED materials to the car detected park inside the Raj Bhavan, police alleged adding he himself was among those who drove in the car inside the Raj Bhavan premises.

Police preliminary investigation into the case said that the IED laden car drove in inside the Raj Bhavan Complex by three persons.

Among them Jiten alias Tyson was one.

Police are on the hunt of two other persons who accompanied with Jiten.

Even though police refused to disclose the exact identities of the two other persons, source disclosed that one of them was the elder brother of Ch Laingam alias Budhi, Ch Dolen of Sagolband Tera Amudon Leirak and another president of a youth front of a political party working in the state.

Source said that two person in the Maruti Car-800 (MN-01-W-5048) passed the main gate of the Raj Bhavan on the pretext of delivering a paper to the Raj Bhavan secretariat.

After they entered Raj Bhavan passing the check post at entrance gate, another man with another car on the pretext of calling on a staff of the Raj Bhavan entered.

But the three men came out with one vehicle leaving behind the other IED laden vehicle, police estimated, the source said.

All the five arrested five persons have been remanded into the police custody till October 3 after producing them in the court of judicial magistrate, Imphal West.

They were produced in the court after registering a case under FIR 92(9)09 under section 121/121-A/307 and 16/18/20 UA (P) A Act, 5 explosive substance Act.
