Anti-militant protest at Moreh

Imphal, April 23 2009: RESIDENT OF the Manipur's border town, Moreh Thursday carried a protest against militants attack to the Assam Rifles post located in thickly populated area even as unknown militants torched a JCP last night at Mayang Imphal in imphal west in another unrelated incident.

Suspected rebels of KYKL yesterday evening conducted an attack at the post of the Assam Rifles at the gate no.2 at the Indo-Myanmar international border with rocket launcher.

No confirm report casualty on the AR or civilian side.

But it has caused panic to the residents of the border town who deserted the place for the movement fear of inflicting injuries if AR retaliated.

Rebels performed the attack using rocket launchers in the evening at around 4 pm.

At least two bombs were exploded inside the post guarding the international gate no.2 .

Decrying the attack on the AR post located in the people inhabitant area, resident of the town today carried out a sit-in protest at a place located between the AR post and moreh police station.

Around 200 people participated in the protest that displayed various slogans protesting against attacking to the security post located in the people inhabitant area.

They also appealed the responsible underground group not to indulge in such activities which amount to create fear and panic in the mind of the people.

Meanwhile, a JCP parked on the roadside at the work place at Sangai Sabi village under Mayang Imphal police station in Imphal west has been burnt down by miscreants suspected to be militants late last night.

Most part of the JCP had been damaged by the burning.

Police suspect militants who demanded money from the owner of the machine hand in the torching act.
