AR man hurt in CI Ops at Kelakhong

Imphal, January 14 2010: Security force launching counter insurgency operation at Kelakhong at the shore of the Loktak lake and its adjoining areas today clash with undergrounds injuring a personnel of the Assam Rifles.

Troops of 33 Assam Rifles launched the operation from this morning and during the operation they clashed with unknown underground at two instances, reports said adding that in one of the encounters, a personnel of the AR wounded.

The injured jawan identified as Yumnam Raju, evacuated at Army hospital with bullet injury, has been referred to Shija Hospital, Imphal later this evening as his condition become serious.

Reports said no word of causing casualty or arresting of undergrounds during the operation but said that AR troops launched attack with bombs and guns at the places suspected to be hiding places of the undergrounds.

Assam Rifles authority so far had not said any word on operation but, SP of Bishnupur district, Jayentakumar said, police got information of operations by the Central Security in some areas within his district jurisdiction.

But as police were not involved in the operation, he could not know about the operation and casualty in the operation.

Local source said that troops of Assam Rifles arrived in the area in the early hour today.

They also fired guns and bombs in the bushes and other places suspected to hide outs of the undergrounds but they could not say whether the troop clashed with undergrounds.

Loktak lake area has been pointed out as haven for the rebels operating in the valley areas of Manipur.

Despite major flashing operations, the areas of the lake continue to pose threat to the security forces.

Police said, the troops of Assam Rifles entered the area from early morning today to launch the operation based on a tip-off of presence of some rebels in the area.

Further operation is under progress till late this evening, they added.
