Imphal, June 12 2009: A contractor abducted by miscreants after shooting to injure at the leg two day back from Thangmeiband area found killed brutally today morning near a water supply scheme at Lilong Chingjao in Thoubal district even as family has alleged taking away a ransom amount of Rs 25 lakhs.

Decrying the brutal killing of the contractor, residents of Kakching area staged protest by closing down the Kakching Bazar and blocking plying of all kinds of vehicles.

A JAC formed and submitted memorandum to the chief minister O Ibobi today.

Unidentified gun men abducted the 42 year old contractor identified as Yengkhom Krishnadas of Kakching Shumang Leikai in Thoubal district while he was fast asleep from his bed at his wife's parental home at Thangmeiband, Imphal, on the night of June 10 at around 10 pm.

The dead body of the contractor was lying with various cut marks of sharp weapons something like knife near the Lilong Chingjao under Lilong police station this morning.

Family who turned up at RIMS morgue where police deposited after retrieving from the spot identified the dead body as that of the contractor.

Family revealed that after taken into custody, kidnappers demanded Rs 2 crore as ransom which family negotiated at Rs 25 lakh and given to them last night.

Last night on mobile phone, a person said to be among the kidnappers demanded Rs 2 crore for the safe release of the contractor.

After negotiation, family members handed over Rs 25 lakh on the same night at a place at Tera, Rishikanta, brother in-law of the slain contractor said.

The abductors also strongly warned to send only the women to deliver the money.

Accordingly the four women including the wife of the contractor who went at Tera Bazar handed over the money to a woman who came out with a child on his back yesterday at around 5 pm.

Even though, the family request to free Krishnadas, they refused to do with a promised that they would released him somewhere at Baruni Chingkok in Imphal east.

However, till around 10 pm last night, they failed to hand over him even though family members waited for him to release at the place they said to release.

Losing hope and unable to wait for the release family members back from the place last.

But on getting information that one dead body which was found lying at Lilong Chingkhong was at RIMS morgue, they found the dead body was that of the contractor.

Highly protesting against the killing of people even after taking ransom, family and relative of the contractors observed that time has come to raise voice of the people against such inhuman act.

On the other hand, residents of Kakching decrying the act of killing the contractor decided to launch various forms of agitation from today.

Residents who staged a protest at Kakching Bazar by closing down the market place for the day and blocking the road has formed JAC and submitted a memorandum to the state chief minister.

In the memorandum, they are demanding booking of the culprits at the earliest, adequate compensation to the family of the decease.

They also threatened to call indefinite general strike in the state if there demands are not fulfilled by the government.

Chief minister, O Ibobi also assured of finding out the culprit and book them under law of the land.

Four armed persons intruded into the house by jumping over the low brick-wall of the house forcibly taken away the contractor on that night, family members said.

Before, carrying away, they also shot at to injure at the leg.
