Saikul, Khundong incidents flayed

Imphal, May 06 2009: ATSUM expressed serious concern over the incidents of injuring four civilians at Khundong village and killing one person at Saikul.

While condemning the incident of injuring four lumbermen by the personnel of 14 Maha Regiment at Khundong village, All Zeliangrong Students' Union demanded to conduct general court martial against the involved personnel at the earliest.

The association also demanded to compensate the victims as they are the bread earners of their respective families.

The students' body also expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for extending financial aid to the victims.

Maintaining that fear psychosis is prevailed in the minds of the civilians as law protectors act as law breakers, ATSUM asserted that it is high time that the State Government to take up necessary action to punish the culprits involved in the two incidents before it takes an ugly turn with the agitation of the people.

Inpui (Kabui) Students' Union, Tamenglong district also condemned the conduct of the troops of 14 Maha Regiment that injured four innocent civilians following a shoot-out at Khundong village on May 1.The Union also urged the involved security personnel not to repeat the same in future.

The Union further said that it would convene an executive meeting on May 9 at Oktan (Puichi) village.
