Six persons involved in killing Krishnadas : Police probe

Imphal, July 01 2009: The state police were said to have established the involvement of six persons in the series of events from the abduction of Contractor Yengkhom Krishnadas from his in-laws' house at Thangmeiband till the subsequent killing of the contractor on June 12 after payment of Rs 25 Lakh ransom money.

According to a reliable source, the police have also established the identities of some involved persons among the six accuses.

The source mentioned the name of one, Chalamba alias Nanao of Kongpal Laishram Leikai, as one among the six accuses.

However, the police were unable to nab him yet despite repeated raids at his house.

On the other hand, another source said that according to the FIR registered in connection with the killing, the conspirators of the crime were Thokchom Nando of Khangabok Part III, Lamlong Keithel in Thoubal, the alleged kingpin; Laikhuram Lakpa alias Nanao alias Hotelnao alias Priyokanta (30) of Kongpal Khaidem Leikai; and the absconding Chalamba alias Nanao of Kongpal Laishram Leikai.

Both Nando and Lakpa @ Nanao have been under police custody.

Police investigation revealed that the absconding Chalamba alias Nanao was said to have actively involved in the abduction, receiving of ransom money and the subsequent killing of contractor Krishnadas, the source said.

However, the Maruti Van used in the abduction of the contractor could not be identified in the investigation so far.

The police have also reportedly recovered one Point 32 pistol said to have been used in the abduction and killing of contractor Krishnadas, according to the source.

Meanwhile, the alleged mastermind of the crime, Thokchon Nando has been remanded to 15 days Judicial Custody for further interrogation in the case after he was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal at the Court of BK Sharma today.

Mention may be made here that the one, Ashalata, who received the ransom money, has been in Judicial Custody.

It may be recalled that Contractor and Social Activist, Yengkhom Krishnadas of Kakching was abducted from his in-laws' house at Thangmeiband Khomdram Selungba Leikai on June 10 last after pumping a bullet on his leg.

He was found being killed on June 12 even after the payment of Rs 25 Lakh ransom money to the captors.

At the same time, alleging the government of being lacking concern in booking the culprits involved in the killing, a massive rally was taken out today at Kakching under the aegis of the JAC formed against the brutal killing of Y Krishnadas to protest slow progress of the government.

The rally began from Ebudhou Naohal Lai Lampak of Kakching Bazar today around 2pm.The massive crowd of around 8000 people joined by students and womenfolk of the area rallied around Kakching area covering Kakching Wairi, Chumnang, Phousupat, Moirangthem Leikai, Mayai Leikai, Makha Leikai, Shumak Leikai and later converged at the Ebudhou Naohal Lai Lampak.

Placards like, 'don't protect the killers,' 'book the culprits immediately,' 'punish the killers,' 'don't turn Manipur into killing field,' 'the killing of Krishnadas is an act of terrorism,' etc were displayed during the rally.

The rallyists have also shouted slogans demanding the immediate arrest of the killers, to produce the killers before the public, etc, at the Ebudhou Naohal Lai Lampak.

Shop owners and keepers of Kakching Bazar downed their shutters during the rally.

The JAC, in a statement pledged to launch several agitations in future.

A poster campaign will be launched from tomorrow as part of the agitation.
