Imphal, January 24 2010: Coming out strongly against the brutal murder of Angom ongbi Chanbi Devi and her daughter Menaka, the local people of Phayeng, to where the two belonged, have petitioned the Chief Minister to book the culprits and punish them fittingly by January 26 .

Prior to this a public meeting was held today attended by the people of Phayeng and the surrounding areas to condemn the dastardly double murder and accordingly a JAC was formed.

The Chief Minister was urged to deliver justice by the JAC.

The public meeting was jointly organised by the Phayeng Apunba Nupi Lup and Chingu Panganba Social Welfare Association at Phayeng Sabal Leikai and it was unanimously decided to form a JAC and to approach the Government to investigate the murder and book the culprits.

People from Sanjenbam, Lairenkabi, Kadangband, Sairemkhul, Tairenpokpi, Koutruk, Tera Urak, Atong Khuman and Kangchup turned up in huge droves for the public meeting.

Later the JAC members along with former MLA of Sekmai AC, Ningthoujam Biren met the Chief Minister in the evening and urged him to book the killers.

A memorandum containing some demands including arresting the killers, to provide video coverage of the post mortem proceedings, to allow members of the JAC to be present at the time of the post mortem and the Govt to provide all the needs of the three orphaned children until they are able to stand on their own feet, was submitted to the Chief Minister.

The memorandum warned that until and unless the points mentioned are fulfilled, the bodies would not be taken back and a series of agitation would be launched.

The JAC later handed the three kids to their uncle and aunty.

The mother and her daughter were abducted by some unidentified persons in the intervening nights of January 12 and 13 and their lifeless bodies were recovered on January 23 .
