Sekmaijin JAC sets March 22 deadline

Imphal, March 21 2010: Setting March 21 as the deadline for the Government to initiate necessary actions against the security personnel involved in the killing of Hawaibam Amujao Meetei of Sekmaijin Mamang Leikai, the JAC formed in this connection has threatened to impose indefinite bandh along Mayai Lambi with effect from 5 am of March 23 if the Government fails to do so.

According to a statement of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the brutal killing of H Amujao Meetei of Sekmaijin Mamang Leikai, 18-year old Amujao s/o Ibobi, who worked as a handyman of the bus MN-01-1818 plying between Wabagai and Imphal, was whisked away by three unidentified armed persons in an autorickshaw from Andro Parking in the afternoon of March 18.But the following day, Army claimed that he was shot dead in an encounter.

Contending that Amujao was shot dead by the Army in a fake encounter, the JAC demanded the Government to initiate necessary actions against the security personnel involved in the killing.

Setting March 22 as the deadline to meet the demand of the JAC, the statement signed by its secretary Elangbam Birbal Singh warned that if the Government fails to take up necessary measures to award befitting punishment against the guilty security personnel, then the JAC would be constraint to go ahead with imposition of an indefinite bandh along Mayai Lambi with effect from 5 am of March 23 .

However, essential services like medical and religious gathering would be exempted from the purview of the bandh, the statement of the JAC informed, while appealing to the people to extend support to the proposed bandh.

The JAC has also made it clear that the body of Amujao would not be taken until the demand of the JAC is fulfilled by the Government.
