Nando remanded in police custody for 10 days

Imphal, June 01 2009: Police investigating the heinous murder of special contractor Y Krishnadas have got Thokchom Nando remanded in their custody for 10 days after producing him in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal today for further investigation into his involvement in the case.

Imphal West district police rearrested Thokchom Nando @ Nanao @ Ibungo (30), son of Th Subol of Khangabok Part-III in Thoubal district, who has been in jail and facing trial of earlier case of kidnapping and subsequent killing of eight year-old Lungnila Elizabeth, daughter of the then Minister of GAD, Francis Ngajokpa in 2003.He was arrested by the police in December 2003 and has since been lodged in the Sajiwa Central Jail as under trial prisoner.

court of the CJM Imphal B K Sharma today at 1.30 pm under heavy security coverage with a prayer for further remand in the police custody.

The court complex was manned by the personnel of Imphal west police and police commandos while he was produced.

The court granted the police to keep him in their custody till June 27 with a directive of checking his health condition by a medical officer once in 48 hour if necessary in compliance with the Supreme Court order.

The investigating officer (IO) of the contractor murder case prayed the court for remanding him in the judicial custody for 13 days.

Police have registered as case on June 11 in connection with abduction of Yengkhom Krishnadas on June 10 night on the ransom demand of Rs 2 crore.

In the complaint lodged by the father in-law of the deceased Krishnadas, Keisham Gopal, it is mention that his son in-law had been murdered by the abductors even though the family has given Rs 25 lakhs for his safe release.

Police registered a case (FIR 188(6)09) under section 364/364-A, 307, 457/302/120-B of the IPC and section 16/20 of UA (P) Act.

In the course of police investigation and information extract from the interrogation from the woman named Seram ongbi Ashalata arrested by the police in connection with the murder case stated that the woman has handed over the amount received by her from the family of Krishnadas to the person who Nando said to give over phone.

Police said Nando communicated with Ashalata's Airtel mobile no.9862269793 through his mobile nos.9612700654, 9612700655, 9612700656 and 961258370 .

Police raid the room of Nando inside the Shajiwa Jail after obtaining search warrant from the Judicial magistrate first class, Imphal in the early hour of June 15.During the raid, police seized four SIM cards and mobile handset etc.

which they alleged use in committing the crime.

When, police escorted Nando from the court room, he told to reporters gathering there that he believed court will deliver justice in the case, but as he is in jail, he is not involved in the case.
