Imphal, March 18 2009:: Sit-in-protests were carried out at least to four places today against shooting to injure of people and bomb threats at the residential areas by suspected militants in the last few days.

Locals of the Khundakpam and Keibi area under the Khundrakpam Assembly Constituency in Imphal east district staged sit-in protest at their respective localities registering strong protest against the shooting to injure of two Congress workers yesterday by suspected KCP (MC) militants.

Two Congress workers name Khangembam Muhindro (75) and Laiphrakpam Ibungcha (53), both hailing from Khundrakpam Mayai Leikai were shot at by the suspected KCP(MC) militants at the legs yesterday at Sambei village after they were abducted on the previous night.

Locals protesting against the shooting incident said that Muhindro is the president of the Khundrakpam Kendra Development Committee while Ibungcha is an agent of SK oil of the locality.

Attacking on them will amount to hampered in the developmental activities in the locality as they were the forerunners in taking up the developmental works in the area.

Don't carry out attacks to such persons who are committed in taking up welfare and developmental works of the people, womenfolk participating in the sit-in protest lamented.

Residents of Chingmeirong west also carried out sit-in protests at their respective areas today decrying repeated attacks to a house of a retired engineer of the state IFCD hailing from the locality.

Another sit-in protest was also carried out at Langol Ningthou denouncing the blast at the residence of a senior engineer of Yurembam Power House, Soibam Ibopishak last night.

No casualties have been reported except for some minor damage to the house.

However it caused panic to the people in blast that took place at around 9.05 pm.

Some miscreants hurled the bomb at the residence of the engineer that exploded near the kitchen thus causing minor damage to the kitchen.
