Ukhrul, January 17 2009: Unidentified armed persons exploded a hand grenade inside a private residence here in Wino Bazaar Ukhrul at around 7:10 pm yesterday, reports our Ukhrul correspondent. The hand grenade exploded inside the upper floor of a building in which a businessman name Srivastava is staying.

Owned by one Chihansung Tangkhul, the building, however, also housed the office of the Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB) in the lower floor.

Nobody was injured in the blast.

However some portion of the veranda has been damaged in the blast.

After the blast, IG (Law & Order)-III Zathang along with other senior officers of SIB and SP Ukhrul visited the site for spot investigation.

According to police, the bomb was a country made low intensity explosive.

Official sources further said that the attackers were not targeting the SIB office but the businessman.

One militant group had allegedly demanded Rs 1.5 lakhs from the businessman on November 17 and again on December 18 last year.
