Imphal, December 12 2008: POLICE COMMANDOS have killed one PREPAK activist, another injured activist nabbed while another one coming together with the slain person in a motorcycle managed escaped from the commandos this evening at around 6.30 pm at Salanthong under Porompat police station, official report said.

The activist who received bullet injury at the leg identified as Chandam Sunildro alias Ibomcha (33) son of Yaima of Khurai Lairkyengbam Leikai has been evacuated at JN hospital this late evening.

He is said to be an innocent and being carry by two activists of the PREPAK after abduction.

As per his disclosure, the slain youth was identified as one Thangjam Boynao alias Karnajit (29) hailing from Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai, a PREPAK activist.

Police recovered an AK-56 rifles along with a magazine loaded with 18 live rounds from the slain suspect whose identity could not be immediately confirmed.

The gunfight occurred when a team of Imphal west police commandos who were coming from the Imphal-Saikhul road intercepted with three youths coming in a Yahama motorcycle (MNP-6540) in a suspicious manner nearby the Salanthong.

On seeing the police coming one of three youths at the rear jumped down from the motorcycle and took position to open fire towards the police commandos by taking out a gun.

The police commandos immediately opened fired towards them resulting in the killing one of the youths.

Another was caught with bullet injury but while chasing after the other one to run away by crossing the Salanthong by firing, the injured suspect vanished from the scene, said the police commandos engaging in the gunfight.

Despite hectic effort to hunt out the two escaping youths, till late tonight there were no reports of picking up them.

Police retrieved the bead body of the slain suspect from the spot and deposited at RIMS morgue for identification.

The slain man has tonsured head and white complexion, seems to be Meetei.

He wore a black joking shirt.

A PULF activist named Md Abdul Rashid (23) hailing from Urup Arapti was also nabbed by a team of Imphal Imphal west police commandos of Imphal west yesterday at around 5.30 pm Paona Bazar, a statement of the Imphal west SP said.
