Imphal, July 05 2009: Joint All Manipur College Students' Union today announced suspension of all forms of education related activities tomorrow in all colleges as mark of protest against the detention of five students under NSA who were arrested in the wake of professor Md Islamuddin.

Announcing this in a press conference held at Manipur Press Club today, president Noukhamba Noarem of the body said that the act of detention of the students in connection with the murder of the professor despite claimed made by an underground organization is attitude of the government targeting towards the students while they could not counter with the undergrounds.

Vice president of the union, Mangi Longjam said in protest against the detention of the five students, all educational related activities in colleges will be suspended and appealed students and teachers to support the protest.

He also demanded that all the five students should be released without any condition.

General secretary, JMCSU, Elangbam Bishwanath alleged that the act of detention of students under NSA is a policy of the government to force student join undergrounds.

It is not a right step on the part of the government detaining the students despite knowing that IRB personnel involved in the professor Md Islamuddin killing case.

Involvement of IRB personnel in the killing is an unfortunate thing and government is trying to conceal it.

No justice could be brought about by detaining the students, he added.
