Imphal, November 04 2008: A suspected underground activist has been shot dead by Imphal West District Police Commandos during an alleged encounter which took place at Kameng Yengao Ching under Lamshang Police Station at around 4.45 pm today.

According to police, the commandos recovered a Chinese made hand grenade from the possession of the slain UG suspect whose identity is yet to be established.

Strongly built, the deceased was clad in a blue colour track suit, olive green colour T-shirt, a pair of black slippers and white socks with a silver amulet tied with a black thread around his neck and a ring on his right middle.

The body has been picked up by the police and kept at the mortuary of RIMS Hospital.There were bullet marks on the left side of the stomach and near the armpit.
