SF-UG clash victim yet to compensate

Imphal, May 04 2009: Even after nearly three years had passed, family of a civilian victim of insurgency related violent incident occurred in October 2005 is yet to get the ex-gratia compensation to be given by the state government to the victims of terrorist victims.

According to chairman, Peorei Chithong, chairman of the Laibam Khullen Village Authority of Ukhrul district, one Daniel Chithong of the village died when he was caught by stray bullets in a clash between troops of Assam Rifles and Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) cadres at the village on October 18, 2005.He was hit by the bullets fired out by the Assam Rifles, he added.

The parent of the victim had also died and his left three siblings.

At the time of his dead, his marriage was only three month.

After the dead of her husband, Shingwon had married to another man.

Recalling the incident of that fateful day, Peorei said that the gun clash occurred when villagers are getting ready to go to field for work of the day.

Villagers run away in no direction on hearing the gun firing sounds.

Daniel was also among them.

But he was hit by the bullet when he was standing without knowing on which director he is to run.

When the villagers return to the village after the cross firing ceased, Daniel was found dead.

After the incident and knowing that he was civilian, authority of the Assam Rifles gave Rs 10,000 as help to the family.

Other than this, so far no assistant from government is getting by the family, he informed.

Assam Rifles had carried away one of the sibling to their camp with an assurance to employee in the Assam Rifles but on the basis of unfit physical standard, he was not appointed.

Peorei also expressed his willingness to draw the attention of the government in paying ex-gratia compensation to the family of the victim.
