Imphal, February 03 2010: A suspected PULF activist was gunned down by troops of 28 Assam Rifles at Takhok Mapal under Irilbung police station tonight at about 8.30 pm.

The troops reportedly recovered an AK-56 rifle, two magazines containing 16 live rounds in it from the possession of the slain suspect, a police report said.

The dead body has been deposited at RIMS morgue after retrieving it from the spot, police added.

Meanwhile, atleast three cadres of Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) have been apprehended Tuesday afternoon by the Thoubal police commandos from Athokpam Khunao, according to police.

The police said the three cadres were detained on suspicion by the police while conducting frisking in and around Athokpam along National Highway-39.The trio was coming in D.I.Tata white in colour bearing registration number MN-01K-7662 .

The apprehended cadres have been identified as Heigrujam Premjit Singh @ Chaoba (31) s/o H.Noyon Singh of, Shamurailatpam Tomba Sharma (27) s/o Sh.

Ibotombi Sharma and Heigrujam Koktang Singh (19) s/o H Rajen Singh.

The trio hailed from same place, Yairipok Pukhri Achouba Mapal.

On verification, they disclosed that they are the active members of outlawed organization of KCP and came at FCS godown, Thoubal to collect rice on account of 'raising day' of KCP under the instruction of one Maibam Noren Meetei @ Daoji (35) s/o M.Kunjraj Meetei of Yairipok Top Meitram Leirak.

They also revealed that the D.I Tata is registered in the name of one Shamurailatpam Basanta Sharma (37) s/o Sh.

Ibotombi Sharma of Yairipok Achouba Pukhri Mapal, the police claimed.

Two Nokia mobile phone handsets were recovered from their possession, revealed the police.

On the other hand, troops of 34 Assam rifles of 9 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) apprehended a KYKL cadre from Khetri Leikai at around 7.30 pm on February 2.The cadre was apprehended when on discovering the movement of UG cadres on Yairipok -Thoubal road, a mobile check post was established in the general are Khetri Leikai.

The apprehendee was identified as Nongthombam Tangba alias Roshan, Zonal Commander (Finance), 30 years, son of N Padma of Huikap Makha.

He was later handed over to thouba Police Station, said a release from the PRO IGAR (South).
