Yet another two killed

Imphal, February 01 2009: CLOSE ON the heels of killing two suspected militants by troops of 29 Assam Rifles in an alleged firefight in Chandel district bordering Myanmar on Friday night, two more suspected militants were killed in Imphal east district this morning.

According to police reports, the two suspected militants were gunned down by a team of Imphal east district police commandos in an encounter which took place at Yaralpat, about 10 km east of Imphal around 11.10 am.

One AK 56 rifle with eight live rounds, one M 16 rifle , one hand grenade,15 live rounds of AK 47 rifle were recovered from the possession of the slain persons, the reports said.

The dead bodies have been evacuated to RIMS hospital mortuary for further identification.

None of the militant organizations operating in the state claimed involvement in the day's alleged encounter.

Meanwhile, the bodies of the two suspected militants who were killed last Friday night in an alleged encounter with the troops of 29 Assam rifles at Lairi village near Khudengthabi junction in Chandel district bordering Myanmar have also been transferred to RIMS mortuary for autopsy.

PRO, Assam Rifles, Major Shamsher Jung said, the incident took place when a patrol party of the Assam Rifles tried to stop two persons moving suspiciously at night near Lairi area under Tengnoupal police station around 9.15 pm on Friday.

But the two persons in turn fired and lobbed hand grenades towards the troops.

The troops retaliated and in the ensuing encounter, the two persons were killed.

Two small arms along with personal diaries and indian currencies were recovered from their possession.

The Assam Rifles PRO further admitted that the recovered items from the slain suspected militants include, one 9 mm pistol wtih a magazine loaded with two live rounds, one 7.65 mm pistol (Italy made)with a magazine loaded with 4 live rounds,five fired cases and two personal diaries.
