Kidnapped man shot dead; Failed bomb attack bid at minister's house

Imphal, March 28 2009: A Man abducted by some unknown persons who came in a van this morning was later abandoned after shooting him to death this afternoon at Sinam Loukon about 13 km north east of Heingang police station in Imphal east district.

The killed man has been identified as Wahengbam Roshan (26), son of W Ibobi of Nungou Chairen, presently residing at Wangkhei Thangapat Mapal.

The dead body had at least six bullet injury marks, two in the head and four in the chest.

He was kidnapped this morning around 9 am from Keishamthong Moirangningthou area by some unknown person coming into a white maruti van bearing registration no.MN 1A-8365 while he was going with his pregnant wife.

His wife lodged complaint with the Imphal police as soon as Roshan, a goldsmith by profession.

Police also registered a case.

Reports said Roshan was kidnapped from Keishampat area while he was going with his wife Sapna.

Kidnappers left behind his wife Sapna alias Nishi while taking away Roshan.

Meanwhile, the younger brother of Roshan alleged that his brother was abducted by some persons led by one Boy alias Nanao serving under the commando of Major Raina of 23 AR in civil dress.

On the other hand, the house of state education minister, L Jayentakumar was under attack with a hand grenade tonight at around 6.45 pm.

The bomb was hurled by two persons coming into a Silver colour Activa scooter inside the gate of the minister's resident.

The bomb failed to explode.

But as soon as the information received, police team led by Imphal west SP, Kailun rushed to the spot and retrieved the bomb from the spot at around 7.30 pm.
