Bombs threat at three places, tourism employees protested

Imphal, March 17 2009: Suspected militants threatened with failed bomb attacks at the resident of the retired assistant engineer, at Imphal Hospital and Babina Diagnostic Centre even as employees of the state tourism department staged sit-in protest against bomb threat at the resident one of its officers.

Police reports said that a hand grenade was found at the residential area of the house of the former assistant engineer of IFCD at Chingmeirong west this morning for the second time in the recent time.

Police believed that the hand grenade was lobbed by the suspected militants last night in connection with monetary demand served to the retired engineer who is suffering from cancer.

According to locals, his is cancer patient at the last stage.

Failed bomb attacks were also carried by miscreants last night at Imphal Hospital and Babina Diagnostic Centre located along the RIMS road last night.

Lever of one of the bombs found at the premise of the Imphal Hospital was unplugged.

Later, the bombs were safely disposed off by police.

Meanwhile, decrying the deposition of bomb at the resident of the officer on special duty at state Tourism Department Laishram Chaoba Sharma of Brahmapur Thangapat on March 15, employees of the department today staged a sit-in protest at the office premise at North AOC opposite to DM College.

Official works of the department were totally paralyzed as a result of the protest that was commenced from 10 am and went on till 4 pm.

Various slogans appealing not to cause fear and allow the employees to work in a fearless manner were displayed at the protest site.

Residents of the Chingmeirong west has also held a public meeting today and discussed with condemnation to the repeated bomb attack at the house of retired assistant engineer of IFCD Warepam Madan which the last bomb explosion occurred on March 11 last.

The repeated bomb attack to the house has caused fear and panic to the people at the neighbour not only to the family of the AE, the speakers at the meeting lamented and appealed all concerns not to carry out such attacks at the thickly populated areas.

The meeting also formed a JAC with W Hema as convener to deal with future attacks with bombs in the locality.
