IE PHQ sentry found murdered in guard tower

Imphal, January 15 2009: ONE SENTRY of state police guarding the premises of Imphal east dis trict police headquarters and commando complex at Porompat was found hammered to death and the LMG along with three fully loaded magazines tak en away by unknown per sons last midnight.

The dead sentry has been identified as Md Sikander (31) of Kwakta, at present residing at Golap-ati in Imphal east.

According to family sources, Md Sikander was a rifleman of 1st IRB.

He had been posted and at tached to Imphal east po lice commando one year back.

He is survived by his wife, a five year-old son and a five month-old daughter, Official sources said, a team of commandos who returned from an operation at Lamlai area in which they had shot dead a KCP cadre last midnight found the main gate unguarded.

They found no sign of the sentry in the guard tower.

When they received no response from the sentry despite calling him repeat edly, one of the comman dos climbed up to the tow er and he found the sentry lying dead in a pool of blood with his head smashed.

The sources said, the killers might have clubbed his head with a heavy ob ject to death.

The LMG al lotted to "him along with three fully loaded maga zines were found missing.

The arms and ammuni tions- could have been taken away by the killers.

Police have registered a case and have begun inves tigating into the incident.

In connection with the incident, it is learnt that the police were interrogat ing three police personnel.

However, no clues are re ported to have been found so far.

In the meanwhile, a J AC against the murder has been formed by the res idents of Sikander's locali ty terming it an act of conspiracy, President of the J AC, Md Zakir Hussain told re porters that the JAC would insist the State government on instituting a judicial in quiry into the incident of murder.

Golapati against the incident, but a large force of police dispersed the processionists by firing tear gas shells causing injuries to three persons.

Later, a team of the JAC met the Chief Minister-in charge, Th Devendra and submitted; a memorandum to him.

The JAC is demanding Judicial probe in the murder case, finding the murderers and booking them within one month, providing a surviving member of Sikander a government job and paying the family Sikander's monthly salary until! his retirement period.
