Imphal, July 05 2009: After killing two PLA cadres yesterday, the Assam Rifles have gunned down another two PLA cadres in a shoot-out at Rill Ram centre under the jurisdiction of Tengnoupal Police Station in Chandel District.

A statement issued by the PRO (IGAR-S) stated that two PLA cadres were killed in an encounter yesterday morning around 6.15 at Ril Ram Centre while two others were killed this morning at the same place during an operation.

According to the statement, based on specific information, troops of 29 Assam rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) launched operation in general area of Ril Ram Centre on July 4.It stated that at around 6.15 am the troops observed suspicious movement of two individuals.

On being challenged, these individuals opened fire towards the troops and tried to escape taking advantage of the thick foliage.

However, the troops responded immediately and killed two PLA cadres, the statement claimed.

One AK Rifles with Magazine and bayonet, one Sten Carbine with Magazine, five live rounds of AK, one live rounds of SMC, nine fired cartridge cases of AK, three fired cartridge cases of SMC, two IEDs and six Chinese Hand Grenades have been recovered from the slain militants.

Dead bodies of the slain persons, along with recovered items have been handed over to Tengnoupal Police station yesterday at 10am, it added.

Meanwhile, following the successful Operation on the morning of July 4 wherein two UGs belonging to PLA were gunned down,troops of 29 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) launched search operations in general area of Ril Ram Centre.

During the search of Rill Ram Centre village, militants hurled hand grenades and opened indiscriminate fire towards the troops.

Responding immediately, the troops eliminated two more militant cadres, the AR statement claimed.

One 9mm Pistol, two 9mm pistol magazines, fifteen 9mm ammunitions, eleven fired cartridge cases of M-16 and AK-47 rifles, six fired cartridge cases of Lathode, two Detonators, two 12V Battery, fifteen AK-47 ammunitions, ten Hand Grenades and two IEDs have been recovered from the slain cadres.

Dead bodies, along with recovered items have been handed over to Imphal West Police Station today at 8am, the statement asserted.

In another incident involving Thoubal police commandos and troops of 34 Assam Rifles, a suspected UNLF cadre killed at the foothill of Phouden Kairenbi village under Thoubal police station in Thoubal district this morning at about 5.20 am.

Police reports said a 9 mm pistol loaded with three live rounds and a hand grenade recovered along with a booklet of 30 pages "UNLF-na Nungaiba Phongthokchaba" from the slain suspect later today identified as Khoirom Ratankumar (30) son of Kh Irabot of Moidangpok Awang Leikai.
