Imphal, December 04, 2008: A suspected UG cadre was slain in a reported encounter with troops of 32 AR at Tangjeng Khongnangkhong in Thoubal district at about 3.30 am yesterday, informed a police source.

However, according to a press release issued by the PRO of Hqs IG AR (S), the AR troops were conducting an operation in Lilong Chajing area in the wee hours yesterday when they faced off with three youths.

On seeing the security personnel, two of them sped away on a motorcycle while the third tried to escape by firing at the AR personnel who retaliated immediately killing the suspected UG cadre.

One M-20 pistol with a magazine, three live rounds and one hand grenade with detonator were recovered from the slain man.

The corpse along with the recovered items have been handed over to Thoubal police station today, added the PRO release.

In another incident of reported shoot-out, one suspcted UG cadre was also shot dead by troops of 32 Assam Rifles near Ngarian Forest Beat along Imphal-Yairipok road in Imphal East district at about 7.30 pm today.

Assam Rifles PRO Col LM Pant informed the press that one 9 mm pistol has been recovered from the slain individual.
