Imphal, June 01 2009: A man arrested by suspected security forces in civil dress around a month back has been killed by troops of 28 Assam Rifles in an alleged encounter last night at Waithou Chinkol under Lilong Police Station in Thoubal district.

The slain youth, who was killed as suspected PLA cadre was identified as Khagembam Malesh @ Rishikesh (37), son of Sanajaoba of Kumbi Eshing Chaibi Leikai in Bishnupur district.

Police report said that Malesh was killed by the troops of 28 Assam Rifles in encounter last night at around 12.30 am at Waithou Chingkol and recovered a 9 mm pistol loaded with four live rounds from his possession.

According to the family who turned up to identified the dead body at RIMS morgue, Malesh was has been picked up by some persons believed to security personnel in civil dress from Andro Tarungthel in Imphal east on April 28 last.

Armed men in civil dress came on a DI Tata picked him from a house where Malesh is taking shelter.

His mother had lodged a complaint to the Yairipok police station requesting to find out him informing that he had been missing since that day.

While, hectic effort to find Malesh, family was informed of killing him in encounter last night, they said.

The family further revealed that Malesh who was a RPF activist around the year 1996 stayed at home after arrested by the Army.

He also contested in the elections as candidate of councilor to the Kumbi Nagar Panchayat.

After around a month later, he left home saying that he was going for treatment of Hepatitis-B.Since then he failed to return home.

However, according to a press release from the PRO, HQ IR AR (South), troops of 28 AR of 9 Sector under HQ IG AR (South) have killed a suspected underground cadre around 11.30 pm last night at Waithou Road junction in Thoubal district.

Acting on a tip off regarding movement of armed cadres from Thoubal to Lilong on NH -39, the troops established mobile vehicle check post in the area.

The troops asked a motor cycle with a pillion rider to stop for identification.

Instead of stopping the vehicle, the rider turned the vehicle and the pillion rider fired at the troops.

The troops fired back and killed the pillion rider on the spot.

One Revolver with two live rounds and mis fired rounds were recovered from the slain UG.
