Imphal, December 23 2008: One suspected cadre of the proscribed PREPAK has been slain in a reported encounter with a combined force at an isolated place between Sadokpam and Heinoubok under Lamphel police station at about 5.30 pm today.

According to police forces, the combined force of Imphal West commandos and 32 AR, on receiving specific information about movement of some UG cadres in the area, lay in ambush one hour before the shoot-out.

About half an hour later, two suspicious looking persons approached the site.

On being shouted to halt, they opened fire towards the combined force.

In retaliatory fire, one was shot dead while the other managed to escape.

One .32 pistol, two live rounds, one misfired round and one lever of Chinese hand grenade were recovered from the slain individual, informed the police source.

Police have picked up the corpse and deposited at RIMS mortuary for identification.

The individual wore blue jeans, leather jacket, jersey of blue and red colour, blue shirt and slippers.
