Imphal, February 18 2009: One suspected UG cadre has been slain in a reported encounter with troops of 8 AR at a spot in Gamngai area of Chandel district.

According to a press release issued by the PRO of Hqs IG AR (S), the shoot-out took place at about 9 pm yesterday.

Acting on a specific information about movement of some UG cadres in the area, troops of 8 AR lay in ambush at Changpi Khullen and Gamngai area last night.

One youth coming towards Gamngai on the western side of Manipur river opened fire towards the troops when asked to halt.

He was killed in the retaliatory fire by the troops.

One 9 mm pistol, one magazine with six live rounds and one hand grenade were recovered from the slain youth.

The corpse and the recovered items have been handed over to Lamphel police station, the PRO said.

On the other hand, one KYKL cadre identified as Laishom Hemo alias Meino (35) s/o Tomal of Khongjom Sapam Leikai was arrested by Thoubal police commandos during frisking at Thoubal Bazar this afternoon, informed a police source.
