Imphal, November 05 2008: The identity of the alleged underground activist shot dead by Imphal West district police commandos on November 4 at around 4:45 pm at Kameng Yengao Ching under Lamshang Police Station has been established as Nongmaithem Michael (32) s/o Jayenta Kumar of Keishampat Keisham Leikai.

According to family members, the deceased was called out by two unidentified persons on the pretext of talking over something in the night of November 3 at around 9:30 pm.

The whereabouts of Michael was not known to the family since then.

However, the family came to know only from the newspaper that an unidentified corpse was lying at RIMS morgue of which the descriptions were similar to Michael.

The deceased is survived by his wife and two sons.

Michael's body has been taken away by family members after conducting post mortem.

Meanwhile, the mutilated body of a child found from Khoidumpat Kakching Khongmaril under Waikhong Police Station, Thoubal could not be established as no one comes to claim the body till the filing of this report.
