Chandel decries killing

Imphal, June 30 2009: As a mark of protest and also a fervent appeal to the concern groups on the rampant killings of non-locals in Manipur, a large number of people sponsored by frontal Naga organisations in Chandel district of Manipur supported by the Non-Local Traders Union, Chandel staged a sit-in-protest today at Chandel district headquarters.

The sit-in protest was held between 9 am and 1 pm.

In the programme Chandel Naga Peoples Organization (CNPO), Naga Students Union, Chandel (NSUC), Chairman Small Town Committee, Chandel, Non-local Traders Union, Chandel, Naga Women Union Chandel and Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) participated.

A memorandum in this regard addressed to the Prime Minister of India was also submitted to Devesh Deval, the Deputy Commissioner, Chandel.

A copy each of the same memorandum was also dispatched to the Governor of Manipur and the chief minister of Manipur who also heads the Home Affairs.

Over 100 non-local businessmen from various trades participated in the programme.

Shops were closed and traffic movement was almost paralyzed but no untoward incident occurred during the dharna.
