Imphal, January 30 2009: A 42 year old man with fatal knife wounds was found dead at Khangkhong Ching Tolchang village, about 16 kms South of Chakpikarong police station today.

Police have brought the corpse to RIMS mortuary this evening.

It is suspected that the man might have been lynched in the intervening night of January 28 and 29 .

According to police sources, the deceased was one Sorokhaibam Chacha alias Basanta (42) s/o late Sanayaima of Chairen Mangjil under Sugnu police station.

Knife wounds were observed on stomach and neck.

The wound on stomach was so severe that it pulled out the innards.

Basanta together with some other people of his village went to the place (where he was found dead) to saw timber.

In the intervening night of January 28 and 29, he went out.

Soon after, Basanta was heard shouting in pain.

On being inspected outside, Basanta was found lynched to death with fatal knife wounds.

To find out whether Basanta stabbed himself or some people lynched him, Chakpikarong police have started investigation into the incident after registering an FIR.
