Imphal, July 24 2009: Barely 24 hours after the reckless gun-fight in the heart of Khwairamband Keithel in which two persons including a woman were killed, a hand grenade has been recovered from near a shop located in the high security zone of Babupara.

The .36 High Explosive hand grenade was found in front of shop located just opposite to the BSNL building (Telephone Bhavan) and Old Secretariat at about 6 am today.

Although the pin of the grenade was found not removed, explosive experts have safely retrieved the grenade, conveyed a police source.

Notably, the spot where the grenade was found is a high security zone with important Government offices like Old Secretariat, Telephone Bhavan and VIP quarters located a few metres away.

Moreover, 1st Bn MR complex is also located just adjacent to the South.

Further State Police Hqs, Imphal West Police Hqs and Chief Minister's official residence are also located nearby along the same road.

Another hand grenade was also found at the gate of Langol View Charitable Clinic near RIMS South Gate this morning.

Police have retrieved the explosive, added the source.
