Imphal, November 23 2009: The Haokip Insung Kiloikhom Society (HIKS), Jiribam has flayed the 'encounter story' claimed by the troops of 11 Field Regiment of Red Shield Division in the elimination of Seikholien Haokip after branding him as one of the UGs who attacked an IRB camp near Bhuban Hills in Cachar district of Assam on November 14, reports our Jiribam correspondent.

The Society contended that the victim Seikholien Haokip (30) s/o Jamkhomang Haokip of Tuilaphai village, Churachandpur district was an innocent farmer who had no relation with any UG groups.

The Society further asserted that Seikholien , who was staying at the place of one of his relatives at Haokip Punjee, Cachar, had been picked up by the troops of the said unit in connivance with Jirighat police on November 18 while he was charging the battery of his mobile phone in a Pan Dukan belonging to one Md Nursuman at Lalpani Bazar, Cachar.

But the following day, his bullet-riddled body was found in the mortuary of Silchar Medical College, with Army claiming that he was killed in an encounter and one of the SLRs which had been looted from the IRB camp was recovered from his possession.

Condemning the 'fake encounter', the Society has demanded befitting punishment against the guilty jawans.

It also demanded payment of ex-gratia to the bereaved family and as well as withdrawal of 11 Field Regiment and warned of launching intense agitations if the demands were not considered.
