Imphal, August 20: Following the ultimatum set by the self styled propaganda, communication and technical officer of the proscribed KCP (MC), Tamnganba Meitei on the meira paibis of Nambol Phabi, Khaidem, Khabam Bamdiar, Heikrujam and Konthoujam to provide concrete proof that its five cadres arrested by Bishnupur police were involved in an attempt to kidnap children some time back or else face the consequences, a public meeting was convened today at Konthoujam Sabal Leikai to discuss the issue.

Presided by two elders of the area, the meeting decided to appeal to the outfit to retract from its stand.

Addressing the gathering a social worker of the area, Chingangbam Ibopishak said that on the day when the five persons were rounded by the people, they did not say that they were KCP cadres.

After the meira paibis gave their clarifications to the media, a rally was staged against child kidnapping from Khumbong to Patsoi on July 30 .

Thereafter a resolution was taken to ban the entry of outsiders to Khumbong, Sagoltongba, Khaidem, Konthoujam, Awang Khunou, Keithelmanbi, Moidangpok, Patsoi and Sajirou.

From that day onward the entry of outsiders to these places was banned, he said and added that on August 2 there was an uproar over the detention of two mothers.

The five KCP cadres came to the area while the fear psychosis over the kidnapping of children was running high he recalled and added that as their presence aroused suspicion they were rounded up by the public at Nambol Khabi.

If the public had known that they were KCP (MC) cadres they may have been left alone and moreover none of them identified themselves as cadres of the said outfit.
