SP Bishnupur details Waroiching shoot-out

Imphal, December 14 2009: The armed cadres of the KCP-MC (Lamyanba Khuman) who were engaged in shoot out with a combined security force last night at Loibol Khunou of Waroiching were a gang who not only cause obstruction to the construction work of the tourist home at Sadu Chiru but also involved in other crimes including abduction of children, SP of Bishnupur district Konsam Jayanta has stated.

Addressing a press conference at Bishnupur District Police Headquarters today, SP Jayanta said the shoot out broke out between a combined force of District Police Commandos and personnel of 4/8 GR at around 5 pm yesterday while the combined force was conducting a search operation based on specific information.

In the ensuing shoot out, one of the armed cadres was killed while a temporary camp used by them was destroyed.

Two AK-56 Rifles and two magazines with 20 live rounds, one lethode gun (M-79 gun), three bombs, one kenwood wireless set and 11 SIM cards of mobile phones were recovered from the temporary camp, the SP informed.

UG cadres held: Three cadres of the proscribed UNLF were apprehended by a team of Imphal West commandos from near RIMS morgue, Lamphelpat at about 3 pm yesterday.

The arrested cadres have been identified as Aheibam Nabin (38) s/o A Nabakumar of Thangmeiband Yumnam Leikai, Keisam Premjit alias Yotchabi (32) s/o late K Kulla of Kongba Laishram Leikai and RK Surjit (35) s/o RK Bheigyachandra of Uripok Achom Leikai.

Parading the UG cadres before media persons at the commando complex of North AOC today, Imphal West Assistant SP L Mangkhoging Haokip said that the commando found them moving in a suspicious manner near RIMS morgue.

On questioning, it was established that they were cadres of the UNLF and that Nabin and Premjit were involved in the grenade attack against an Assam Rifles convoy at Singjamei on November 19 .

The grenade attack was undertaken at the command of S/S Sgt Maj Sakti of the UNLF.

The three UNLF cadres had also collected old age pension amount of Rs 76,200 from Social Welfare DSO Jateshor.

The same amount was handed over to one Ajit, a reporter of ISTV under instruction of S/S Sgt Maj Sakti, Mangkhoging Haokip said.

Three mobile handsets, one silver colour Maruti Zen (registered in the name of one Laishram Ronald s/o L RK Singh of Wangjing Awang Leikai), one identity card, one voter identity card, one driving licence, Rs 510 in cash and a wallet were also recovered from the three arrested cadres, the police officer said.
