Man, woman hurt in firing

Imphal, January 08 2009: Atleast two persons including a man and a woman sustained injuries in gun-firing during a clash that broke between two families over the issue of mortgaging a paddy field at Phoubakchao under Mayang Imphal Police Station of Imphal West District at around 3.30 pm today.

According to information received by the press, the group consisting of Md Ashraf Ali (55) of Phoubakchao; Md Bashir (45), a relative of Ashraf Ali; Md Wahe, younger brother of Bashir and Md Azad (15), son of Wahe reportedly came to the house of one Md Ibotombi (55) of the same locality and opened fire from a single/double barrel.

Md Ibotombi has been admitted to RIMS Hospital with injuries on his right leg, left arm and in private parts.

Leinaton Bibi (38), wife of Abdul, who is the younger brother of Ibotombi was also hurt in the firing on her back and left calf when she intervened and tried to stop firing.

She too has also been admitted to RIMS for treatment.

Some years back, Ibotombi had reportedly mortgaged 3 Sangam of paddy field at Rs 3 lakhs to Ashraf Ali.

The clash between the two families broke out over the issue of refunding the mortgaged amount.
