Police foil CDPO's life attempt bid, three nabbed

Imphal, November 01 2009: A combined force of Imphal west police commandos and troops of Assam Rifles have foiled a bid to attempt life of the CDPO of Bishnupur, N Modhubala of Singjamei Thongam Leikai with the nabbing of a man and two women involved allegedly involved in the attempt.

Claiming the foiling of the life attempt bid, Additional SP (operation), Imphal West District Police, AK Jhalajit today told media persons today that last night on getting a specific information of KCP(MC) planning for murder of the CDPO, Bishnupur, a combined team of Imphal West Police Commandos and troops of 39 Assam Rifles kept a close vigilance in and around the residence of the CDPO yesterday evening.

At about 5.30 pm, two persons on an Activa Honda were seen coming at the house of the CDPO.

They escaped from the hand of the security forces.

In chasing after them at about 6.30 pm, a youth in the Activa Honda was rounded up while the other one escaped again.

From the abducted youth, security force recovered a 9 mm pistol (bearing no.90016965) loaded with six live rounds.

The youth was later identified as Laishram Birjit alias Naoba son of Tomba of Khongjom Bazar.

He is a student of TDC IInd year studying in Chandigarh.

He was former information secretary of AMSU, Thoubal Branch in 2006-07.He has completed ACC A/B in 2003 and Army Attachment along with � GR (Weapon Training).

The additional SP said that he was former PREPAK.

He was hired by one KCP (MC) activists identified as one Abe alias Romila of Wabagai Terapishak to perform the mission of murder of the CDPO with an assurance of giving Rs 30,000 along with a computer set.

Police further said that he came out in Imphal by a Zet Lite flight on October 27 last for the mission.

He was received by one Thangjam Bijayta (23) daughter of of Keishampat Lairembi Mamang and arranged his stay point at the house of one Khaidem Bimola wife of L Sharat of Kongpal Khaidem Leikai.

The arrangement was made by Ibeyaima of Kwakeithel, a member of the Nupi Samaj.

One woman named Rita Devi handed over the arm to Birjit on October 28, the additional SP said referring to the disclosure made by the abducted youth.

Following disclosure made by Birjit, the police commandos picked up Thangjam Bijayta and Laishram Bimola.

The youth who accompanied Birjit in the attempt to the life of the CDPO is still at large, he said.
