Imphal, October 29 2008: The 12-hour Manipur bandh called by All Manipur Inter-State Bus Association with effect from 6 am today in protest against the incident of burning down a passenger bus by armed outfit KLO/KLA at Lahorijan in Assam on the night October 23 ended peacefully without any untoward incident.

On account of the bandh, traffic volume of buses and trucks plying on the National Highways and the State Highways was thin though the number of taxis and autorickshaw service was appreciable.

The bandh did not had its impact on the daily flight service as well.

With a large number of shoppers coming to Khwairamband Bazar in connection with Ningol Chakkouba and Kut festival, shop-keepers also could not down the shutters of their shops.

On the other hand, in all Imphal-bound seven passenger buses and around 70 good laden trucks have reportedly crossed Mao Gate this morning under security escorts.

During the course of the bandh today, members of Inter-State Bus Association staged a protest demonstration blocking half of the National Highway 39 at North AOC here.

The Association had already met Chief Minister raising the demand for conducting a judicial inquiry, setting up of a Highway Protection Force and giving adequate compensation to the deceased and injured.

In all 2 passengers were charred to death while several sustained burn injuries in the gruesome incident.
