Imphal, January 28 2009: The identity of the UG suspect who was shot dead by Imphal West District Police Commandos during an alleged encounter at Chongtham Kona under Wangoi Police Station last night has been established today.

He was one Laishram Ibomcha (25) s/o Ibotombi of Mayang Imphal Bazar.

Refuting the police claim, the family members asserted that the deceased was a drug addict and had been earlier handed over to the police for putting in a jail for his involvement in petty theft in the locality.

He was released was jail only in November last year.

He had no connection whatsoever with any underground organisation, the family members said.

However, the body has been taken away by the family members after post-mortem examination at the mortuary of RIMS Hospital today.
