Imphal, August 27 2009: In protest against the killing of Kumarjit, a protest demonstration was staged at Irom Meijrao today besides blocking roads.

Yumnam Kumarjit (18) of Irom Meijrao Mamang Makha Leikai was shot dead by a combined team of Bishnupur police commandos and troops of 4/8 Gorkha Rifles in a reported encounter at Moirangkongpat, to the East of Toubul on August 24 .

Contending that Kumarjit was shot dead after being apprehended, the local people has constituted a joint action committee.

The local people headed by the JAC blocked all vehicular traffic at Irom Meijrao.

A sit-in-protest was also staged at Irom Meijrao Lakshmi Keithel.

On the other hand, a press release issued by the Bishnupur SDPO notified that the corpse of Kumarjit would be disposed off if the same is not claimed by tomorrow afternoon.

It mentioned that one AK 56 rifle and nine live rounds were recovered from the suspected PREPAK cadre slain at Moirangkhongpat by the combined force on August 24 .
