Two of them shot dead by unknown persons, two by commandos

Imphal, September 22 2009: At least four suspected underground activists have been killed in two separate incidents today.Two of them were killed by Thoubal District police commandos at Khoidumpat in the district while the other two, suspected to be KCP (MC) cadres, were shot dead by unknown persons last night.

Police said, two men suspected to be cadres of PREPAK were gunned down by a team of Thoubal district police commandos during a search operation at Khoidumpat under Kakching Police Station of Thoubal district at about 11.15 am today.

Two China-made pistols from the two deceased insurgents were recovered.The deceased could be Huidrom Imu (35), son of Tomba of Sekmaijin Khunou Litan Mathak and Shamurailatpam Tombi (35), son of Khongnem of Sekmaijin Khunou Lai Makha, sources said.

According to a statement of Thoubal District Senior SP, Clay Khongsai, police commandos of the district rushed to the area on receiving information that suspected PREPAK militants were taking shelter at Sekmaijin Khunou with an intention to carry out prejudicial activities to Sekmaijin area.

The commandos tactically rushed towards Sekmaijin Khunou, the statement said adding that at about 11.15 am as the commandos started the search operations, four to five armed youths suspected to be PREPAK cadres ran out of a house towards Khoidumpat and after taking position in a fish farm, fired at the commandos.

The commandos retaliated.

Two of them were killed after around five to six minutes of encounter.

Others managed to escape towards Khoidumpat.

On further search operation, two foreign made pistols were recovered, the statement added.

Three live rounds of ammunition were recovered along with the two pistols from the two deceased.

Post mortem has been conducted on the two dead bodies at Lilong mortuary, and have been kept at the RIMS morgue for identification.

Meanwhile, police retrieved two bullet riddled dead bodies of suspected KCP (MC) cadres from a spot at the foot hill of Nongren village, located about five kilometers south west of Lamlai police station this morning.

Reports said, they were gunned down by some unknown armed men at about 9.30 pm yesterday.

The two slain persons were identified today as Laithangbam Reagan @ Tompok (30), son of L Bihari of Chingnungkok Mamang Leikai while the other one has been identified as Sureishang @ Amang (26), son of late Daidas of Tungkoi village under Lamlai police station.

Reagan left behind his wife and a son.

He allegedly joined the KCP (MC) two years back.

He was once nabbed by the security forces, according to the family.

Surieshang had joined the same outfit around a year back.

He was also married and left behind his wife and a daughter, the family said.

According to the families, Reagan and Sureishang were abducted by some persons, among whom some were in combat dress, from the house of Lovejoy Tangkhul of Happyland village yesterday evening at about 6.30 pm while they were watching television.

The unknown persons intruded into the house by breaking the door.

Some of the abductors spoke Tangkhul, Nagami and Meeteilon.

The two were kept with their hands tied near a tank of the village for sometime.

As soon as they were led away from there, the villagers could hear sounds of gunshots from the direction of Nongren village.

Police recovered five empty cases of M-16 rifles from the spot where the dead bodies were found.
