Imphal, February 15 2009: The person killed by combined team of Imphal west district police commandos and troops of the 12 Maratha Light infantry on February 12 evening in between Ningombam and Kwakeithel Konjengbam Leikai was an ordinary money lender, claimed the victim's father Sanatomba of Waiton Mayai Leikai.

Sanatomba, disclosed to newspersons that his 38-year old son Leithanthem Baleswor left home on the fateful evening on his normal routine of collecting interest for the amount indebted to him by vendors of some Imphal market places.

Informing that his son was earlier employed as a cashier in Kanan Devi Memorial School, Pangei for about 13 years after which he left the educational institution for the money-lending venture, Sanatomba was indignant with the version of police authorities of Baleswor being shot dead as UG suspect.

Echoing her father in-law's version of the incident, the victim's wife Umabati Devi (34) reiterated that Baleswor, also survived by two sons and a daughter, as usual left home to collect the due amount.

Baleswor also carried some money when he went out for the daily collection, the wife claimed.

While the corpse is awaiting claim by family members from RIMS morgue, a sit-in-protest was staged at Waiton Puthiba Keithel today to decry the killing.
